Week 29 - Brimfield Antique Markets

A couple weeks ago my mom and I made our annual trip to the Brimfield Antique Markets in Brimfield, MA. It is a week long antiques fair that runs for about a mile down the main street. There are fields upon fields of antiques. It was so hot we only got to stay for a few hours but we picked up lots of goodies and some Christmas presents too. Each vendor displays their booth as they see fit, some look like the trunk exploded and everything was left as it lay and others are carefully laid out like a shop. These are some of my favorite "shop" like booths.

Week 28 - Cat Hollow

It has been so hot here recently (well into the 90's most days with lots of humidity). To beat the heat a bit I decided to stop at this park in a near by town. I had seen it on a website and it looked good. That website must have been a bit old because the park/trails has not been maintained in quite some time. I did find this beautiful spot by the mill pond and dam though. And that really cool mushroom. It looked like porcelain.

Week 27

Sorry about the delay in postings. I've been having a problem with getting film developed and scanned. I bought a scanner and am doing it myself now. So I have 4 posts scheduled for this week.

A couple weeks ago, I had the pleasure of visiting this wonderful nursery in town. They are selling a lot of their plants off to go wholesale next year but the gardens are beautiful. One section is all cactus and succulent plants. It's like a little bit of the desert in New England. They you cross the drive to a complete shade sanctuary with this great little meditation garden. The sales area is in that great barn. They also have a great selection of hand made pots.

Week 26

Friday, Mark and I went to Beavertail State Park on the tip of Jamestown, RI. It is a great place to have a picnic or just sit on the rocks near the water like we did. The weather was absolutely perfect - sunny, not too hot and with a nice breeze. I didn't want to leave. More pictures on No.15.

Week 25

Last Saturday I made it back down to one of my favorite town's in Rhode Island - Wickford. It reminds me of Cape Cod only without all the traffic. Wickford is a quaint little town just up river a bit from the ocean. The village section has two street of little shops full of antiques, clothing, decor and whimsies. As well as a few restaurants on the river.

It was the perfect sunny summer afternoon. I wish I could have spent more time there but it was getting late. Next time hopefully I can spend the whole day walking around.

Week 23 Coventry Farmer's Market

Last Sunday was the opening day of the Coventry Farmer's Market in Coventry, CT. It runs every Sunday from 11-2pm until October. This is by far the best farmer's market I have been too. It is held on the grounds of the historic and beautiful Nathan Hale Homestead. There was music, pony rides, vegetables, baked goods and bread, clothing, plants, cheese, meat, dry goods, and a ton of other products for sale. One of the local farmers also brought this 2 day old calf for the open. Isn't she sweet!

I got a bunch of thing but my favorite is the 2 quarts of fresh strawberries. They are so delicious. I made a gluten-free strawberry almond short cake. Recipe over on No. 15.

Week 22

These pictures are what I love most about Providence. There is such a mix of architecture and creativity in the city. The first picture is City Hall, if you look on the left side you can see where the second picture was taken. This building has some of the most interesting and elaborate details in all of Providence. It spans a block and the lower half has store fronts on 3 sides. One part is home to the Big Nazo Lab (3rd & 4th photo). They create the best creatures for performances and have a traveling masked musical group (they play in full costume at events and parades). I love to take pictures of their window displays. The big green head is my favorite though. The last photo is part of a series of art windows throughout the city. They fill empty store fronts with art instillations. This window was full of hanging light bulbs in different patterns.
